In particular, the sharp decline in the rupee’s value versus the US dollar over the past week—which is still happening—has started to have an impact on two-wheeler prices. Toyota Indus has already raised the cost of two of its locally built vehicles this month; additional price increases are anticipated. Honda is the first manufacturer of two-wheelers to raise prices.
Future Price Increase Anticipated?
The Pakistani Rupee’s depreciation versus the US Dollar suggests that bike manufacturers may raise the price of their cars in Pakistan. Honda last raised the price of its motorcycles on November 1, 2022, when 1 USD was equivalent to about 220.5 PKR. 1 USD is now about equivalent to 226.75 USD (interbank rate). There has been a rise of about 3%. The cost of Yamaha motorcycles has already soared in Pakistan.
It is important to note that many businesses raise their automobile pricing when the value of the dollar increases. However, the majority of businesses don’t lower their pricing when costs are reduced. Given that it is 2023 and customers are more informed than ever, this practise must halt immediately.
